Shihan Brian Bastien

Shihan Brian is the Branch Chief of the Burbank/North Los Angeles Branch of Kyokushin, which includes Burbank, Reseda, Eagle Rock, and West L.A. dojos. He is also the head instructor of the Burbank adult program. Shihan Brian began his study of Kyokushin Karate in 1971. Prior to that he studied Aikido, another Japanese martial art. Shihan is currently ranked Yondan, 4th degree black belt, in Kyokushin. Now retired, Shihan was formerly a respected radio newscaster.

Senpai Jeremy Kaplan "Crunch"

Senpai Jeremy is the head instructor of the Eagle Rock dojo child program, a bookstore owner, and a published martial arts writer. He formerly taught the Burbank children's class (1996-2003), as well as both child & adult classes in Reseda. Since opening the Eagle Rock Dojo in 2004, Senpai has trained and guided 11 students in winning 22 championship trophies for full contact karate fighting. Senpai Jeremy is currently a Shodan (1st degree black belt) in Kyokushin and has also studied boxing, Muay Thai kickboxing, grappling, and jujitsu. He was a special education, martial arts, & leadership teacher in Los Angeles for 10 years, instructing students ages 6 to 17. Senpai Jeremy's various fighting names include Kaplan Crunch, Vanilla Thunder, Vanilla Crunch, and Professor Crunch. Some call him: Crunchy.

Senpai Kiyoshi "Little Red" Honda aka "Special K"

"Special K" is our local Renaissance Man, having studied Brazilian Jujitsu, Kyokushin, Okinawan Karate, and kickboxing. He assists at the dojo as jujitsu coach and pitiless sparring partner.
